Ultimate World Club League

This time we are going to get it right.
After trying this twice and just having a world of badluck hit me from my game console crashing, to unexpected travel, and many other obstacles not even worth mentioning, the Ultimate Football League will be reborn by me and this time done better and more complete.
Those of you that followed the past two closely I apologize for not completing, but as they say in many corners or the world, the third time is the charm.
I am starting even before the FIFA 11 game is released so I can get a head start. The ultimate goal is remember to crown the best club football team in the world in the most realistic simulation as possible. The format I have will change a little, but the reporting and drama will all be better then ever. One hunderd and fifty six club teams will be included.
So details are soon to follow, as always your input is always encouraged and welcomed. The most satisfying thing about doing this is all the feedback and comments provided by the users of this forum.
Stay tuned for format details and the teams that will be invited.|||So who is the best club in the world?
Not a matter of who you think or your friend at the bar thinks is the best, but who really is? It is also not about a one game fluke or a hot run that helps decide this, but rather who can play well under pressure for the long haul to prove they are the best.
The goal of the Ultimate Football League is exactly that. So the format for going about this is now a reality as we prepare for release of FIFA 11 later this month. The competition will be as follows:
The top 50 teams in the World will be chosen and set apart for group play
The next tier of 28 teams will be drawn into two legs of home and home aggraragte fixtures. The winners of these fixtures will advance makign the total teams 64.
The 64 teams will be seperated into 8 groups of 8 teams playing each team in their groups once.
The top four teams in each group will advance to the next round where a World Cup format will be played with 8 groups of four teams and the top two advancing.
The last 16 will formulate the Ultuimate Football League
Now the task begins to choose the 78 teams from around the world. This is a little difficult as I still dont know if FIFA has added any new leagues for 2011. If you know and can comfirm a new league please let me know. In the meantime I will use the same leagues in FIFA 10 and choose teams from there while making adjustments if new leagues are actually included.
If you have input on the teams that should be participating or not, please voice them now.|||I look forward to this, you did a very good job with it in Fifa 10 and I enjoyed following the thread. Overview
The Brazilians fell on their faces in the opening game of the UWCL. All the hype and excitement and in the end it couldnt have gone any worse for the home side as they failed to create real chances and watched the in form visitors move the ball around with ease and finish the job in a profesional manner. Ronaldo and Roberto Carlos looked their age and Julio Cesar wasnt at the top of his game at goal; nerves were obviously a factor for the home side. Fernandez was released in the 47th minute when Roberto Carlos mistimed his offisde trap, Fernandez beat Julio Cesar to the near post for the crucial away goal. Cornithians didnt get better when down but surely played woth more nerves, they did push and made some subs but Raul Patricio only really had to make one save from a Jorge Henrique strong effort. In the 83rd minute the game and the fixcture were essentially decided with another goal. Now Corinthians have the close to impossible to do on the return leg in Lisbon, it is incredible that they created so few chances and couldnt score on their home pitch.
Decisive Moment
In the 83rd minute the Portugese side started a cool counterattack that Pedro Mendes made look easy taking the majority of the run. The ball was slotted nicely for Djalo who chipped a finish over an oncoming Julio Cesar and juat like that the unthinkable happened.

Napoli vs Aston Villa

1-0

At Stadio Sao Paolo
Match Official: Jasper De Vaart (Netherlands)
Goals: M. Hamsick (pen) 39
Red Card: P. Cannavaro 79 (Napoli)
Injury: E. Cavani (Napoli)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Game Summary
Walter Mazzari made it known that he expected his side to qualify and beat English side Aston Villa and his team responded outright with an opening win at home thanks to some very physical defending and a fighting spirit. Napoli w3ere determined not to concede at home and play tight and cautious. For the first 20 minutes it was really Villa that created the chances and the possession of play but the challanges came in and to be honest Jasper De Vaart was rather lenient with the whistle. Uraguayan Walter Gargano made the breakthrough however in the 38th minute when he created space with an excellent throughball and Hassan Yedba too the ball into the box and was held and bumped by Lucas Young to get the penalty. Hamsik from the spot beat Brad Friedal and the Napoli tactics of caution could take full effect. In the second half things would get interesting as finally captain Paolo Cannavaro was sent off with a straight red after his spike up tackle clattered John Carew, Cannavaro will miss the return leg. It was a frantic final 10 minutes but Morgan De Sanctis was up to the challange and even the goalpost saved the Italians off a late Stewart Downing effort. Villa however have everything to play for heading back to England only a single goal down and in truth playing the better for much of the match.
Man of the match
Walter Gargano was as good as it gets for Napoli tonight helping set up the penalty with an excellent pass and playing with obvious confidence for most of the match. Gargano helped defend and was a true leader on the pitch showing pride for his side and playing like it.

PAOK vs BESIKTAS JK

3-0

AT Toumba Stadium Salonika Greece
Match official: Xavier Aguilar Garcia (Spain)
Goals: Z. Muslinovic 3, V. Ivic (pen) 16, Vierinha 70
Yellow Cards: M. Ferrari
Injuries: G. Fotakis
HF: 2-0
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Game Summary
When ever a Greek side and a Turkish side square off there is always extra incentive and passion. Beskitas on this day knew that they would be facing a very difficult atmosphere and would have to defend bravely. The last thing they wanted to hap[pen was to cencede an early goal and get the crowd in the game. In the third minute however this is exactly what happened when a deflection allowed Zlatan Muslinovic the space and time to slot home a score in only the third minute. From that moment on the crowd and enthusiasm took over and the visitors never really looked like getting back into the match. PAOK have some of the most fanatical support in Europe and in the 16th minute a clumsy tackle won a penalty that PAOK converted through Vladimir Ivic and down two scored unfder twenty minutes Beskitas just had to be sure not to completely play themselves out of the two game series. After a number of near misses and a good performance by Fabian Ernst on the day the Turkish side settled thre ship a bit but were in no moode to push forward for a score. Still a moment of excellence from Vierinha for PAOK may have broken the back of this tie as his left footed strike found the net in the 70th minute. Now going basck to Turkey Beksitas have a very tough task to overcome but will be spurned on by a very rockous crowd of their own that is sure to believe in the impossible task facing their side.
Man of the Match
Zlatan Muslimovic was a threat all night long and his early goal may have been the moment of the aggregate tie between these two sides. Bottom line the striker had the chance early to make the diffrence and he took it.|||

]UNAM PUMAS vs BAYER LEVERKUSEN

0-1

At Estadio Olimpico Universitario Mexico City, Mexico
Match official: Wesley Vangortern (Netherlands)
Goals: P. Helmes 4
Yellow Cards: M. Ballack, D. Lopez
Injuries: J. Palencia (UNAM), S. Rolfes (Leverkusen)
HF: 0-1
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Game Summary
No one can defend like a German side and Bayern Leverkusen went into the harsh Mexican hotbed and held a clean sheet while making a huge leap towards qualification to the group stage of the UWCL. It was the perfect start for the German side when suprize starter Patrick Helmes headed home a perfect Sami Hyppia cross to place his header past Bernal for the opening goal. As we have seen thus far in these games, the early goal makes such a diffrence in the gameplan and psycological aspects of the remainder of the match. PUMAS soon came on the offensive but found that Leverkusen were well trained in holding possesion and using muscle to control their end of the field. Of course this did not mean that some heroics were needed, Rene Adler was called upon to make a number of saves including a diving one with minutes remaining off of a scortching Leandro header. Now the Mexican side has a very tough task to go to Germany and win, but a 2-1 win isnt a complete impossibility, so they surely will give it everything.
Man of the match
Michael Ballack was said to be a forgotten man after leaving Chelsea and missing the World Cup. But tonight Ballack proved he was healthy and very close to his old self having the most touches and possesion of anyone on the field before he was taken off in the 89th minute. Ballack added after his great performance, "I feel like Im home, its great to be appreciated."
