Career mode- Can an existing player become a manager

With the player manager format in CM- can you take a player to manager status after you retire them?|||I believe so. There's no way to go straight from player to manager though.|||

So i can be for example Paul Scholes, and be a player manager, then become the manager full time of man U?!
